Colourist goes black & white at FHL

Pen and ink replace brushes and watercolours in "Tinta," the latest exhibit of visual artist Jill Arwen Posadas. Opening at the Alcove Gallery of the Filipinas Heritage Library on Monday, November 12, 2012, "Tinta" features a collection of animals, landscapes and other drawings done using a dip pen.

"People who follow my work might be used to seeing bright colours and fantastic creatures," Posadas says. "Though this exhibit is a little bit more down-to-earth, it is still very much me, just maybe a slightly different side."

Posadas has been drawing and painting for several years, and has held annual one-woman shows since 2005. While most of her portfolio is comprised of works in watercolour, acrylic and oil, many of these works display the linear and expressive qualities found in the works at "Tinta." "What I like about drawing in ink is the energy and the immediacy," Posadas says.

Posadas has a Painting degree from the Diliman campus of the University of the Philippines - College of Fine Arts, as well as a Communication Arts degree from the University of Asia and the Pacific. Her art studies include painting and drawing workshops at the Escuela sa Museo at the Ayala Museum and the Barlaya Illustrating for Children Workshop at the Vargas Museum. Posadas’ exhibition credits also include several group shows such as "Where Reading Takes You," mounted by Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang InK) at the Filipinas Heritage Library.  She is also a published illustrator whose works have appeared in children’s books, magazines, newspapers, greeting cards and a Philippine postage stamp.

"Tinta" by Jill Arwen Posadas runs until Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Filipinas Heritage Library, Makati Avenue, Ayala Triangle, Makati City. Library hours are 9AM to 6PM, Tuesday to Saturday. For inquiries, call 892-1801, e-mail fhl_inquiry@filipinaslibrary.org.ph or visit www.filipinaslibrary.org.ph
